Why Using Taylor Made CGB Irons Can Add Loft And Distance To Your Iron Play
Taylor Made CGB irons are super high performance clubs using much of the company's ground breaking technology. Although the clubs are also known as r7 CGB clubs, they do not incorporate the Moveable Weight Technology which is present in Taylor Made r7 drivers. The CGB initials stand for Center of Gravity Back, which is a clear statement of intent on behalf of the manufacturer. This is obviously a club made with the intention of getting the ball airborne with plenty of loft, and achieving a high flight and soft landing.
The most striking feature of these irons is that they employ the Inverted Cone Technology which is present in Taylormade metal woods. It took a considerable amount of time and effort before the designers were able to get the technology to work with irons, so these clubs represent considerable progress. The club face is made not of titanium but of steel, which makes it less prone to scratching and damage inflicted by wear and tear. Having an extremely thin but very strong club face is important for implementation of Inverted Cone Technology, as it leaves precious grams of weight which can be located elsewhere.
The weight which has been saved has been relocated in the place where it will have the most effect in terms of aiding loft. There are weight cartridges, similar to the ones used in Moveable Weight Technology, only these are fixed, and they are located at the toe and heel of the club, right at the bottom. The wide sole of the club also helps to move the weight right to where it wants to be, which is as low and as far back as possible. This weight position will help any golfer who can swing a club reasonably well to launch high irons.
According to Taylormade themselves, the r7 range was not supposed to be specifically about Movable Weight Technology. It was just about allowing a golfer to select the optimum launch conditions for their swing. These irons give a golfer the greatest possible chance of getting the ball high into the air with good flight, and achieving good distance as a result. This should be consistent, due to the large sweet spot and the high probability of even an off center hit finding the fairway or the green.
Opinions are divided on exactly who should be considering these clubs. It is obvious that they suit high handicap golfers who have a need for help from this type of technology, but there are those who believe that single figure handicap golfers should think about them as well. They are good enough irons to hit the ball far and clean, instead of just scooping the ball into the air with no power or distance. The middle irons can be used to shape shots, and are easy to swing. There is clearly a wide range of golfers who should be considering Taylor Made CGB irons.
